Dr. Bill Gates
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Gates to our practice! Dr. Gates is originally from Utica New York and has recently relocated to our area from North Carolina! We are beyond thrilled to have him on TEAM PVDA! He is a huge Duke Blue Devils basketball fan, especially during the height of the season! Dr. Gates also spends a great deal of time training his golden retrievers, Shadow and October for their dog agility competitions. He enjoys listening to music, especially the Beatles. Dr. Gates’s professionalism and compassion make him the perfect fit for our team.
After attending Colgate, he graduated from Duke University in 1985. Bill stayed in North Carolina to graduate from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1989. He continued his formal training at the University of Iowa, earning a Master of Science degree in Prosthodontics in 1991. Bill then trained at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston in the specialty of Maxillofacial Prosthetics. The specialty in Maxillofacial Prosthetics focuses on the comprehensive care of people diagnosed with and treated for cancer.
He returned to the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in 1992 as a full-time faculty member in the Department of Prosthodontics. He has been in private practice since 1996 and is currently an adjunct faculty member at UNC. For the past ten years Bill has been a member of Iowa MOST (Miles of Smiles Team). This all volunteer group travels to Guatemala for 10 days where they provide life changing treatments to an underserved population who have a cleft lip and or palate. Dr. Gates is an active member of the following dental organizations: American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics, American College of Prosthodontists, American Dental Association, Spear Dental Study Club, Triangle Study Club, Dilday Study Club.
Excellence in dentistry is measured by consistently providing care that promotes long term dental health. Achieving this level of excellence begins with listening to your concerns and knowing your goals in dental care. Because medical conditions can affect dental health it is essential to understand your general medical health including all medications you take. Esthetic and functional goals are met through a comprehensive evaluation and treatment of the jaw joints, supporting structures including the bone and gums, and the health and structure of individual teeth. Communication of these findings through discussion, pictures, and x-rays leads to the development of a customized treatment plan.
Dr. Gates will provide care for people of all ages. He will listen to what you have to say and provide you with the best recommendations for your smile.
